About Us

Greg and Derry Malson have always had a love for animals. Working in various aspects of rescue for many years, they became involved in transporting, fostering, and helping animals in every way they could.  Finding an avenue to do more for animals in need, as well as the greater rescue community during a time of overwhelming crisis was a clear call to action for the Malsons, deciding to honor Bolt and start Friends of Bolt’s Rescue.

Our Mission

FRIENDS OF BOLT’S RESCUE is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization which provides fund-raising support and coordination with rescues dedicated to alleviating the suffering of abused and abandoned animals. Providing temporary boarding, fostering, transportation to rescue or adoption, veterinary care, and other support services, Friends of Bolt’s Rescue aims to comprehensively fulfill the needs of these animals.

Friends of Bolt’s Rescue also strives to provide supportive services to pet owners and pets in times of extreme hardship, with the goal of keeping the human-animal bond intact. Pet-assisted therapy; humane education; and spay-neuter surgeries are crucial in this mission, believing that prevention is the key to controlling pet overpopulation.

A common love of animals and the desire to help them brought Greg and Derry together. Tens of thousands of rescue transport miles, hundreds of volunteer hours, and an uncountable plethora of pups (with a few cats and mice) later, the Malsons decided that more could be done for for the animals they love by tapping into the connections made across the country in their day jobs. Friends of Bolt's Rescue is their dream to create a rescue that will provide resources and support to small, struggling animal rescues across the country while helping those facing hardship find a way to keep the animals they love.

Daniel McDow
Central Liaison, volunteer - Nashville, TN

Daniel began rescue work in 2003 in Nashville, Tennessee after witnessing the plight of the inner city dogs: multitudes living neglected lives. Starting with the SAFPAW organization, Daniel then volunteered with many other local animal advocate groups such as Dogs Deserve Better and Habitat for Paws. Daniel served as a full time firefighter EMT for 25 years for a local city fire dept., spearheading efforts to ensure pet oxygen masks be present on every fire apparatus in the city. Now retired, Daniel continues his passion for dogs by lending his time and resources across the state of Tennessee.
